A Nigerian girl who hails from Enugu who achieved an outstanding result in the WASSCE but faced challenges in furthering her education has been granted a scholarship to Nigeria’s Most Expensive University.

Nigerian girl from Enugu State who achieved outstanding results in the West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) but faced challenges in continuing her education.

Despite excelling in the WAEC exam in 2023, she could not proceed due to financial constraints preventing her from registering for JAMB.

The girl’s story was highlighted on X by Alex Onyia, who announced that Wigwe University, established by the late Access Bank CEO Herbert Wigwe, would offer her a scholarship.

Ani Oluebube Stephani, the girl in question, scored 9Bs and 1A in her WAEC, demonstrating exceptional academic performance.

Wigwe University has pledged to support Oluebube’s education if she passes her JAMB exam next year. Alex Onyia shared that Oluebube achieved an A1 in marketing, B2 in economics, B3 in civic education, B3 in English language, B2 in Igbo language, B3 in mathematics, B2 in biology, B3 in chemistry, and B3 in physics.

The university’s commitment was confirmed by Onyia, who stated, “Good News. Wigwe University will be supporting her education and, in addition, offer her scholarships in a related course of study if she does well in her JAMB next year.”

This announcement has garnered reactions, with some pointing out the challenges faced by students in Nigeria, who must take multiple exams (SSCE, UTME, and Post-UTME) for university admission. Others emphasized the need to identify and support talented young individuals in similar situations to help them realize their potential.

Wigwe University was a few days ago, reported to be the Most Expensive University in Nigeria, with some students paying Twelve Million Nigerian Naira (N12,000,000) per session.
