The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Allied and Education Institutions on Saturday announced the suspension of their ongoing strike for a period of two months.

“Yes, we have suspended the strike for a period of two months”, SSANU National President, Muhammed Ibrahim told Punch’s correspondent via a telephone call.
Like the Academic Staff Union of Universities, SSANU and NASU had also embarked on strike.
Recall the unions whose strike lasted for over 140days were agitating because of the inconsistent issue with the Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system, unpaid earned allowances, delay in the renegotiation of the FGN, among others.
Though Ibrahim did not disclose the demands of the unions which had been met, the minister of education, Adamu Adamu during a press briefing with state house correspondents last Thursday noted that the government had reached agreements with all the university based unions except ASUU which the minister claimed was requesting for payment of backlog of salaries.
The strike by SSANU and NASU has led to suspension in the issuance of academic transcripts; mobilisation of graduates for the compulsory one year service organized by the National Youth Service Corps.
While Varsity graduates are now happy they can move on with their life, most students hopes and prayes ASUU follows the footstep of their colleagues and call off their 6-month-old strike.
The are however unconfirmed reports that ASUU will likely call off their strike next week, as their members are currently meeting to consider FG’s efforts, thus far.
