Omoboriowo Samson Loye overcame early academic setbacks to graduate with a First-Class degree in Civil Engineering from OAU, achieving a CGPA of 4.63 through resilience, disciplined study, and determination.

A young Nigerian, Omoboriowo Samson Loye, has achieved an extraordinary feat by graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) with a First-Class degree in Civil Engineering and an impressive CGPA of 4.63. His journey, marked by challenges and triumphs, is a powerful story of resilience and determination.
Loye’s academic path began with a major setback: scoring zero in his first mid-semester Chemistry test. The test required students to shade a specific paper type, a detail he overlooked, resulting in a score of zero out of forty. This failure left him deeply discouraged and battling depression throughout the semester.
Determined to turn things around, Loye devised a plan to maximize his performance in the remaining 60 marks of the course’s final exam. His efforts paid off, earning him a C in the course and igniting a remarkable comeback.
Loye faced additional challenges during his fourth year, including a B grade in his Industrial Training (IT) course—a critical 9-unit course that significantly impacted his CGPA. Reflecting on the experience, he said, “It was a bitter experience for me, but I endured, stayed consistent, and ensured I finished strong.”
In his final year, Loye achieved a perfect grade point average, boosting his CGPA to an outstanding 4.63. He credited his success to disciplined study habits, meticulous planning, and a supportive network of peers. Starting his studies early, attending classes regularly, participating actively, and engaging in group discussions were key strategies he employed. Seeking help when needed and surrounding himself with positive influences also played a vital role in his journey.
Loye’s academic excellence has opened numerous opportunities, including participation in mentorship programs, boot camp training, and research collaborations with professors. He aspires to further his education in transportation systems, aiming to become a consultant in transportation policy and a professor of transportation engineering.
Omoboriowo Samson Loye’s story is an inspiring example of perseverance, demonstrating how setbacks can pave the way for exceptional achievements.
