Ghanaian Lawyer Excels in the UK, Earns Master’s Degree and Dual Bar Admissions

Ghanaian lawyer Jennifer Akyeampong achieved remarkable success in the UK, earning a Master of Laws in Immigration Law and being called to the Bar of England and Wales within a year, later qualifying to practice in both Ghana and the UK.

Jennifer Akyeampong, a determined and ambitious Ghanaian lawyer, has achieved remarkable success in the United Kingdom by earning a Master of Laws (LLM) in Immigration Law and being called to the Bar of England and Wales within a year.

Her legal journey began in 2013 when she enrolled at the University of Ghana, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Archaeology in 2017. From a young age, Jennifer had envisioned herself as a lawyer, calling herself “Barrister” long before her dream became a reality.

Driven by her passion for law, she moved to the United Kingdom and pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of Kent as a graduate entrant. After two years of rigorous study, she advanced to the University of Law (UK), where she obtained her LLM in Immigration Law in 2020.

In the same year, Jennifer took and passed the Bar exam, earning her place at the Bar of England and Wales. Despite this significant milestone, she remained deeply connected to her Ghanaian roots. In 2022, she enrolled at the Ghana School of Law, and by 2023, she was called to the Bar of Ghana’s Supreme Court, making her qualified to practice law in both Ghana and the UK.

Reflecting on her journey, Jennifer shared how she had envisioned this moment for over 15 years, reinforcing her belief in the power of persistence and faith.

“For more than 15 years, I called myself ‘Barrister Serwaa’ even before the dream became a reality. I even changed my social media handles to reflect it. Today, what I spoke into existence has finally come true,” she expressed.

Jennifer also credited her family, especially her father, for their unwavering support.

“A special thanks to my family and friends, especially my dad, who believed in me even when I didn’t. He sacrificed everything, including his last penny, to see me achieve this dream. Fulfilling this for him is my greatest accomplishment,” she said.

Despite facing immense challenges along the way, Jennifer remained committed to her goal. Now, with her dreams realized, she looks forward to embracing new opportunities, setting higher aspirations, and making an even greater impact in the legal profession.
