“God is an Excellent God” – Says Lady Who Graduated As Best Medical Doctor Despite Challenges

There is a beautiful scripture from the Holy book that says;
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Hence, this particular scripture is not written to some set of individuals but to all. In all your endeavors in life; ‘excellence should be your watchword.’
Dr Onyinyechukwu Joy Onyewuchi (Onyeanusi), the overall best graduating medical student of COOU, has displayed what is to be, ‘an excellent Christian.’

My name is Onyinyechukwu Joy Onyewuchi (Onyeanusi).
My success story began when I was in secondary school.
At a young age, God gave me a word that He had poured out grace for academic excellence upon my life and that I would maintain the top from that day.
I received the word innocently as a child not sure of the word because I was too young to hold it. But I saw it play out when i graduated from Secondary School as the best.
After Secondary School, I had two years delay (this means she wrote JAMB at least 2 times) because I wasn’t admitted to study my dream course which is Medicine & Surgery. I never knew that the delay was God preparing me for what He has for me. During my waiting season, I was charging up my spirit with God’s word, both with messages and Christian books. I got Acquainted with God that one of the things He revealed concerning my life is; Him using me to strike a balance to the academic world. He also revealed that I would be proof that you can serve God fervently in school and still be an excellent student as opposed to what many people think that serving God in school can take your study time.
I finally got admitted into the higher institution to study Medicine & Surgery. That day, I walked into the school premises with the mindset of what He had revealed concerning me. In school, I involved myself with lots of competition that brought lots of supplication and the Kingdom of God being advanced by the virtue of my success.
Still very international in my walk with God and what He sent me to represent, in my 2nd MBBS, I excelled with two distinctions in Anatomy and Biochemistry. In my 4th and 5th MBBS, God gave me distinctions in one of the most difficult courses making me break the history of my school record.
God was intentional in proving to me that it is not by my strength, so he picked the ones I didn’t expect and lifted me from there.
I graduated with a total of five distinctions which made me graduate with MBBS HONORS. First in the history of my school.
One of my struggles was finance. I remembered someone asking me how I would study medicine since we didn’t have money. Well, I told the person that God would sponsor me and Indeed God did. I went to school through a scholarship offered to me by a philanthropist in my community.
Like I said, I was from a poor family, so, I didn’t have enough money for my upkeep, so I had to try some business in school, I sold scrubs and lab coats, and I was duped along the line. My Aba tailor ran away with my clothes and money, till date, I’m yet to reach him. I left the business and started producing and distributing milkshake and smoothie which was able to sustain me for my upkeep. I never worried about school fees or hostel fees. My sponsor pays as we resume and he was very consistent with it. May God bless him for me.
I had exams I wanted to write but I couldn’t due to financial constraint. I had to wait till I graduated from school. So, yes, money was my major challenge in school.
The role of your people in achieving academic excellence
Well, I was blessed with people, My mum was intentional, she didn’t have but she ensured she provided with what she had. I had great friends in school that believed so much in me and what God has called me. So, they are always there to encourage me with words and edible substances.
My fellowship (Scripture Union) helped a lot in my 100-300l when I was with them till I was I moved to Clinical class. There, I joined Joint Christian Campus Fellowship (JCCF) where I served as the president twice and then JCCF President Anambra once. Serving in these positions helped build me so much.
My academic mentor also helped me, he was the Best Graduating Student in his set and also a good Christian.
In my final year, my husband engaged me and that was a very beautiful level for me. His encouragement and support were something else, He made everything so easy for me at that level, and I kept wondering where he had been all my life, lol. God brought him when I was ready to be in a relationship and yes, we are happily married.
Words of encouragement and advice to students
Seek ye first the kingdom of God and every other thing shall be added unto you. Don’t drop God when you enter school, God is an excellent God, and we have His image. Remember how He distinguished Daniel, that is how He will distinguish you if you decide to stand for him on campus. Be diligent. I studied my books, I went for lectures, I went for postings, I didn’t fold my hands waiting for God’s purpose to be fulfilled without being diligent myself.

Dr Onyinye didn’t just performed excellently in her academics, but as well, as a leader. Serving is several capacity and as well striking a balance is a top notch. She is indeed without doubt capacitated.
During the 10th induction of COOU Medical graduands, Dr Onyinye, received double award as the Overall Best Graduating Medical Student and Best Graduating Female Medical Student.
