Gombe State University To Establish Faculty Of Agricultural Sciences

Gombe State University (GSU) has commence preparations for the Establishment of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to be located at Malam Sidi.

This development is a result of a collaboration initiated by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya during his visit to Michigan State University (MSU), USA. The partnership aims to advance agricultural education and innovation in Gombe State.

Late last year, a delegation from Michigan State University, led by Prof. Daniel Uyeh, visited Gombe State. They toured GSU and inspected the proposed Malam Sidi site for the Faculty of Agriculture, as well as the Industrial Park at Dadin Kowa, designated for an Agricultural Innovation Hub. Prof. Uyeh expressed optimism about the project, highlighting the readiness of the infrastructure.

Key figures involved in the site assessment for the two proposed projects include Prof. Mu’azu Shehu, Principal Private Secretary; Abubakar Maigari, Deputy Director, Raw Materials Research and Development Council; and Ahmed Musa Hussaini, Director General, Research and Documentation.

GSU’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sani Ahmed Yauta, commended Governor Yahaya for his visionary leadership, emphasizing the partnership’s potential to transform GSU into a hub for agricultural education.

In response to this development, the University has already constituted a committee for the proposed Faculty of Agriculture, and the committee has swiftly commenced action.

The proposed partnership between GSU and MSU focuses on:
Establishing the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences
Developing an Agricultural Innovation Hub
Joint research and grant-writing initiatives

This initiative has been widely praised as a significant step toward further placing GSU on the world map and enhancing agricultural research and education in Northern Nigeria.
