Grace Nkansa Asante has made history as Ghana’s first female Professor of Economics, breaking barriers with her distinguished career at KNUST and significant contributions to economic research and education in Africa.

In a groundbreaking achievement, Grace Nkansa Asante has become the first Ghanaian woman to be appointed as a Professor of Economics, making a remarkable mark on the academic world.

This historic milestone was officially recognized by the University Council of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where she has been a dedicated faculty member for nearly two decades.

A specialist in Economic Policy Analysis, Monetary Economics, and Financial Economics, Professor Nkansa Asante has earned a distinguished reputation as a leading expert in her field, significantly shaping economic education and research in Ghana.

Her promotion to full professor is a major milestone in both her personal career and for the advancement of women in academia throughout the nation.

Prior to her promotion, Professor Nkansa Asante served as the Head of the Department of Economics at KNUST from 2019 to 2022. She now holds the position of Vice Dean at the Faculty of Social Sciences within KNUST’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

In addition to her work at KNUST, she is a Visiting Lecturer at the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), where she plays a crucial role in expanding economic research and education across Africa.

Professor Nkansa Asante’s academic credentials are equally impressive, including a Bachelor’s and PhD in Economics from KNUST, as well as a Master’s degree from the University of Ghana, Legon.

Her career has also seen her contribute to significant institutions such as the African Development Bank’s Governance Division in Abidjan and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, where she worked as a public administrator.

Despite her demanding academic and professional responsibilities, Professor Nkansa Asante remains a multifaceted individual. She enjoys teaching, cherishing time spent with children, and engaging in spiritual activities, all while remaining an inspirational figure to women and scholars alike.
