Graduate Laments Financial Struggles, Questions Pressure to Join NYSC

A Nigerian graduate expressed frustration online over the financial burden of registering for the National Youth Service Corps, saying she cannot afford the ₦15,000 fee and questioning the pressure from her parents to participate despite her struggles and doubts about job opportunities after the program.

A Nigerian graduate has shared her frustration online over the financial challenges involved in participating in the National Youth Service Corps program.

In a viral video circulating on social media, the young woman expressed concern about the pressure she is receiving from her parents to begin the national service program despite not having enough money to cover the costs involved.

She explained that the online registration alone costs about ₦15,000 and questioned how she was expected to afford it without financial support. According to her, she already went through significant hardship during her university years while trying to pay for training and practical work.

The graduate said she often struggled to survive while studying, sometimes living on very little food just to save money for her academic and training expenses.

She also revealed that her parents had been asking about the skills she learned in school and suggesting that she return to the village after graduation, a suggestion that frustrated her because she felt it would make her efforts in school meaningless.

According to her, she worked hard to acquire those skills mostly on her own, without financial assistance from her family.

The young woman further explained that her doubts about the value of the program increased after seeing that her elder sister had already completed the national service but was still unemployed.

Because of this, she questioned the pressure being placed on her to participate in the program, asking whether completing the service would truly guarantee a job or a better future.

Her emotional video has sparked reactions online, with many people discussing the financial challenges graduates face and the realities surrounding participation in the National Youth Service Corps program.
