Gunmen abducted a primary school proprietress in Ondo State, shot three people during the attack, and sparked protests as residents demand stronger security while police and military hunt the perpetrators.

Tension has engulfed Ilu-Abo, a community in Akure North council area of Ondo state, after gunmen abducted a primary school proprietress, Mrs. Oladeinde Tomilola, and shot three persons. The attackers stormed her residence at Liberty Avenue around 8 p.m., shot at her vehicle, and whisked her away to an unknown destination.
The gunmen had initially targeted a businessman, John Ofuduwa, shooting him in the head as he drove into his residence. However, they abducted Mrs. Tomilola instead, and injured two others, Victoria and her 11-year-old daughter, Victoria Olorunfemi, who were passing by.
Residents protested the abduction by shutting down the Akure-Owo Highway, demanding increased security presence. Ayodele Salako, a local, expressed frustration, saying, “We can no longer sleep with our two eyes closed. Kidnappers are now operating freely in our community.”
The police and military have launched a manhunt for the attackers, with Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal assuring the public of intensive efforts to rescue the victim and apprehend the perpetrators.
The traditional ruler, Oba Samuel Oluyemi Falae, condemned the attack and pledged support for the police. The police have reinforced security frameworks and urged residents to remain vigilant.
