Gunmen Invade Nasarawa University Hostel, Abduct Six Students

Gunmen attacked a hostel near Nasarawa State University’s engineering campus in Gudi and abducted six students along with a visitor, prompting a major rescue operation by security agencies.

Panic spread across Nasarawa State after armed men reportedly attacked an off-campus hostel belonging to students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and abducted six students alongside another visitor.

The incident occurred in Gudi, located in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state, where the university’s Faculty of Engineering campus is situated. According to reports, the gunmen stormed the students’ lodge at Anguwar Ninzo late at night and forcefully whisked the victims away to an unknown destination.

The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the attack and disclosed that security operatives had already launched a rescue operation to secure the safe return of the abducted students. Police spokesperson SP Rahman Nansel explained that the command received a distress call shortly after the attack happened around 9 p.m.

Authorities revealed that the victims were students of the Faculty of Engineering at the Gudi Campus of Nasarawa State University, while another person taken during the attack was said to be visiting one of the students at the hostel.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Mohammed, reportedly visited the scene to assess the situation and reassure students, residents, and members of the university community that efforts were ongoing to rescue the victims unharmed.

Security agencies, including the police, DSS, military, NSCDC, vigilante groups, and other tactical teams, have since intensified operations in the area to track down the kidnappers and bring them to justice. The Area Commander in Akwanga was also redeployed to coordinate rescue efforts.

The attack has sparked fear and concern among students and residents, with many Nigerians once again raising worries over insecurity and repeated attacks targeting schools and student communities across the country.
