A 300-level student of Federal University of Education, Pankshin was killed by gunmen during an ambush in Plateau State, sparking outrage and calls for stronger security and justice from the Berom Youth Moulders Association.

Tragedy struck in Plateau State after gunmen ambushed and killed a university student in Dum Village, Bachi District, within Riyom Local Government Area.
The deadly incident occurred late Monday night when the attackers reportedly laid in wait at the entrance of the village before launching a sudden assault. Two young men from the community unknowingly walked into the ambush and were immediately targeted by the gunmen, who opened fire on them.
One of the victims, identified as Badung Sunday Alamba, lost his life during the attack. He was a 29-year-old 300-level student of Federal University of Education, Pankshin. According to residents, he was his mother’s only child, making the loss even more heartbreaking for the family and the entire community.
His companion, Dachomo Habila, narrowly escaped death. Witnesses said the attackers also attempted to kill him, but he managed to flee the scene unharmed.
Members of the community expressed deep sorrow and shock over the incident, describing it as a painful and unfortunate loss. A resident noted that the killing has heightened fear among locals, especially given the recurring nature of such attacks in the area.
The incident was confirmed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, who strongly condemned the act. He described the attack as premeditated, cruel, and unjustifiable, emphasizing that innocent civilians continue to suffer repeated violence.
He further alleged that several communities in Riyom, Barkin Ladi, and Jos South Local Government Areas have been consistently targeted by armed groups, raising serious concerns about safety and security in the region.
Calling for urgent action, he urged security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation, identify those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice without delay. He also stressed the need for increased security presence, surveillance, and proactive measures to protect vulnerable communities from further attacks.
