Andrew Kohol transformed his modest NYSC allowance into the foundation of Vuba Fashion House, now a celebrated menswear brand with global reach—proving that with vision, persistence, and creativity, greatness can grow from the simplest beginnings.

A Stitch in Time:
Andrew Kohol, the visionary founder and Creative Director of Vuba Fashion House, recounted how his humble NYSC stipend sparked the birth of a fashion venture focused on men’s wear.
During a creative tour by first-year Mass Communication students from the University of Jos, Kohol welcomed them into his fashion realm. On display was his first sewing machine—a vintage “Dragon Fly” model—bought using his NYSC allowance. These funds, amounting to ₦40,000, were saved over two months while he served at the Industrial Training Fund in Jos.
“That modest investment,” Kohol reflected, “was the turning point: starting small, working tirelessly, staying imaginative, and remaining consistent despite obstacles.”
The students took photos of the Dragon Fly, later making it the highlight of their group presentation—a visual narrative centered on sacrifice, grit, and perseverance. “This machine embodies more than just a tool,” one student shared. “It’s the story of a dream blossoming into a formidable fashion brand.”
Their presentation, rich with meaning and symbolism, earned acclaim from both lecturers and peers. Through this single image, they conveyed how a small beginning can lead to widespread impact.
Kohol’s testimony continued: Vuba Fashion House has grown from that first sewing machine into a brand serving clients not just in Jos but across Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, South Africa, the UK, and the USA. It’s a testament that fashion goes beyond fabric—it’s about the story woven into every stitch.
From practical beginnings to prestige, Vuba’s journey has been marked by several noteworthy accolades including “Best Fashion Brand” at the Plateau State Entrepreneurship Awards and “Most Innovative Fashion Brand” at Junefest. Kohol’s story underscores that greatness often begins in simplicity, nurtured by clarity of vision, steadfast dedication, and the boldness to start, build, innovate, and scale.
