“I Begged Her”: Lady Shares Message From Younger Sister Who Refused to Take Garri to School

A Nigerian lady went viral after sharing how her younger sister, who once refused to take garri to university, later messaged her asking for rice, palm oil, garri, and yam after “reality set in” at school.

A Nigerian woman has gone viral after sharing a humorous message she received from her younger sister, who is currently studying at a university.

The lady, identified on X as @iamzioraa, revealed that when her sister was preparing to leave home for university, she advised her to take garri and other food items along. The younger sister, however, refused, believing she wouldn’t need them.

Not long after resuming school, reality appeared to set in.

The Message That Sparked Reactions

In a WhatsApp message dated February 16, 2025, the lastborn reached out to her elder sister, requesting food supplies. She asked for rice, palm oil, garri, and yam, explaining that she had started drinking garri and that food was expensive around her school environment.

Part of the message read:

“Sister, good afternoon ma. Please help me fetch rice and send it to me. Add red oil and garri too—I’ve started drinking garri now. You can help me buy yam from Nyayan market; yam is expensive here.”

The elder sister shared the message online, humorously recalling how she had begged her sibling to take garri before leaving home.

Social Media Reactions

The post quickly gained attention, attracting over 300,000 views, as many social media users shared similar experiences from their own university days.

Some users joked that “reality has finally landed,” while others narrated how they once vowed never to eat certain foods in school, only to rely on them later for survival. A few commenters also reflected on how student hardship has become a shared and normalized experience.

The post resonated widely, blending humor with a relatable glimpse into student life and the lessons that come with independence.
