Cursory: Popular celebrity Yvonne Godswill Awanga, has revealed that she had violated the school’s rules and as such she was rusticated. However, despite all the setbacks psychologically and physically she still got her certificate.

Yvonne Godswill Awanga, famously known as a former Big Brother Titans star, recently opened up about her experience of being rusticated from the university during her third year.
Recalling her experience in an interview with media personality, Hero Daniels, Yvonne said she got into a fight that led to her expulsion from school.
Her mother was not impressed, and she didn’t waste time letting Yvonne know it. Yvonne said, “My mom was so mad at me. She was just like ‘You’ve joined bad gang.’ It was crazy! I did deliverance [in the church] because she thought something was wrong with me.“
But Yvonne’s father took a different approach. He asked her what her plan was after the incident. Yvonne responded that she wanted to go back to school and make things right. Her father was supportive and encouraged her to take the necessary steps to achieve her goal.
Yvonne had to rewrite JAMB and apply to a new university to start all over again. It wasn’t a smooth ride, as her new classmates were years younger than she was.
In her words, “Just my dad understood. You know lion no dey born goat. He was like ‘What’s your plan?’. I was like ‘I want to go back to school’. He was like ‘okay’. I had to write JAMB because I was rusticated. So, I had to like start all over again.
“By the time I got into year one, my mates [at my former school] had graduated. I was sad. I was depressed. I was so bad that the next school I got to I couldn’t really bond with people because I felt like I was the mama of the class. I’m like three to four years older than the people in my class.”
Yvonne’s story is a reminder that we all face setbacks in life, but it’s up to us to decide how we persevere in the face of adversity.
