Police in Ebonyi State rescued two kidnapped students unharmed, arrested multiple suspects linked to various crimes including murder and kidnapping, and reported significant security gains—recovering weapons, vehicles, and dismantling criminal hideouts—while urging continued public cooperation.

Two kidnapped students have been rescued unharmed by police operatives in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Acting on intelligence, officers from the Ikwo Police Division raided an uncompleted building where the victims were being held.
Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya, disclosed the operation during a press briefing in Abakaliki. She confirmed that three suspects were arrested and remain in custody as investigations continue.
Between July and mid-August 2025, the Command recorded significant achievements, including the arrest of 131 suspects for various offences. Of these, 52 have already been charged to court.
The police also recovered six vehicles, 15 firearms, and 50 rounds of ammunition, while dismantling several criminal hideouts across the state. The Commissioner noted that early warning systems and dialogue-based conflict resolution methods are being used to address recurring land disputes in the state.
In a separate case, three suspects—Amarachi Ude, Idika Ama Okoro, and Sunday Ama Olughu—were arrested in connection with the murder of Udu Nnachi during the Ekoli Edda crisis on July 9, 2025.
On July 28, anti-kidnapping operatives raided a hideout in Umuogodo-Akpu Ngbo, Ohaukwu LGA, arresting Icha Chidiebere and recovering an AK-47 rifle, a Dakota vehicle, and an unregistered Lexus SUV.
Another arrest was made on August 14, when Agboti Kingsley was apprehended in Ivo LGA for allegedly being hired to incite violence in the Ekembe community.
CP Uche-Anya expressed appreciation to residents for their ongoing cooperation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property.
She urged the public to report suspicious activities via the Command’s control room hotline: 07064515001.
