Henry Ndudu Ekong of Pegasus School, Akwa Ibom, won the InterswitchSPAK National Science Competition, earning a N15 million scholarship, a laptop, and monthly stipends, while other top contestants and teachers received scholarships, cash prizes, and JAMB e-PINs.


Henry Ndudu Ekong, a student of Pegasus School in Akwa Ibom State, has emerged as the winner of the InterswitchSPAK National Science Competition, earning a N15 million scholarship for his tertiary education, along with a laptop and monthly stipends over five years.
According to a statement from InterswitchSPAK, the competition, which included a National Qualifying Examination and a 13-week televised contest, recognized three outstanding students for their exceptional scientific knowledge and critical thinking skills.
Eric Denyefa Omare of St. Gregory’s College, Lagos, secured the first runner-up position, receiving a N10 million scholarship over three years and a laptop, while David Umeojiaka of Graceland International School, Rivers State, came third, earning a N5 million scholarship for one year and a laptop.
In addition to these top prizes, cash awards were presented to students who placed fourth to ninth. The top 18 semi-finalists and 27 contributing teachers also received cash rewards, while the top 200 preliminary qualifiers were given JAMB e-PINs to enable free registration for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations.
Now in its sixth edition, InterswitchSPAK was launched to foster excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, underscoring Interswitch’s dedication to nurturing young talent across Africa.
The statement highlighted that over 16,000 students from across Nigeria participated in this year’s competition, showcasing the country’s brightest young minds in STEM subjects.
Speaking on the initiative, Cherry Eromosele, Executive Vice President of Group Marketing and Communications at Interswitch, emphasized the crucial role of STEM education in Africa’s development. She reaffirmed the company’s commitment to empowering young innovators, stating, “At Interswitch, we believe that the future of Nigeria lies in the hands of its youth, particularly those passionate about science and technology. Through InterswitchSPAK, we provide these bright minds with the resources they need to excel, driving individual success and national progress.”
