“It’s not easy controlling ourselves around female students” – Ghanaian teacher urges government to introduce self-control allowance

A Ghanaian teacher went viral after jokingly asking the government to introduce a “self-control allowance” for male teachers, saying it’s difficult to stay focused around attractive female students — a comment that sparked mixed reactions online.

A Ghanaian teacher has gone viral after publicly appealing to the Minister of Education to create a “self-control allowance” for male teachers, claiming it has become increasingly difficult to stay focused while teaching teenage girls.

In a trending video shared by @mayfred on X (formerly Twitter), the teacher humorously lamented that many female students today are “too attractive and tempting,” making concentration in class a real challenge.

“Minister of Education, I’m speaking for my colleagues — we teachers deserve a self-control allowance. Looking at these young girls nowadays, we are suffering,” he said.

“We need that allowance because the students are irresistible. Imagine being a teacher without self-control — will you just let them go like that?”

Although his remarks seemed to be made in jest, he went on to urge the government to compensate male teachers for maintaining discipline and professionalism despite the “temptations” they face.

The clip has stirred massive reactions online, with some finding it hilarious and others calling it inappropriate and unprofessional.

One user wrote, “Na discipline allowance you need, not self-control.” Another added, “This man just said what others are thinking but won’t admit.”

The viral video has since sparked debates across Ghana and Nigeria about teacher conduct, ethics, and self-discipline in the classroom.
