The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has said the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, will accredit more centres for the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The minister, who gave the assurance while on an inspection of some computer-based test centres for the ongoing UTME in Calabar on Monday, also stated that the hitches associated with the examination had been resolved.
He said, “JAMB is doing a fantastic job of getting our students ready for the examination that will get them into the university system. We have inspected a couple of centres around the country and we started out in Calabar this morning. We have been to a few of them and we think it is going on properly. The network hitches have now been resolved.
Some of the complaints by the candidates were genuine and some of the glitches have been resolved and they have been allowed a little more time to continue with the exercise.”

He said JAMB would accredit more centres for the UTME in 2021 to cope with the increasing number of candidates.
Some candidates had complained about being posted to different states as they found it difficult to travel to sit for the examination at such centres.
Nwajiuba visited the UTME CBT centre at the National Open University of Nigeria, Calabar Study Centre, and another one at the University of Calabar Library, where he expressed his displeasure over the state of the library complex, which he said, was not properly maintained.
The minister, who was accompanied on the tour by the state Commissioner for Quality Education, Dr Godwin Amanke; and the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Aniedi Bassey-Ekpenyong, also visited the Immaculate Conception Primary School and Government Secondary School both in Ikot Ansa.
