Lagos State emerged as the overall best at the 27th National JETS Competition in Abuja, excelling in multiple categories and showcasing innovative projects that highlight technology’s role in national development.


Lagos State has been crowned the overall best at the 27th National Junior Engineers, Technicians, and Scientists (JETS) Competition, held in Abuja.
The state excelled in multiple categories, including the Best Overall JETS Award and the top position in the quiz competition. The event saw participation from 200 students representing 20 states across the country.
Throughout the weeklong competition, students displayed innovative projects, such as an automatic fire detection system and an online voting application designed to facilitate participation from Nigerians in the diaspora. Other notable innovations included drones aimed at mitigating conflicts between farmers and herders.
At the closing ceremony, Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, emphasized the importance of technology and innovation as key drivers for sustainable socioeconomic development. He encouraged students to leverage their talents for the nation’s growth.
Grace Akinfoyiwa, Director of Science and Technology in the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, expressed her joy at the team’s success. She attributed the achievement to the students’ dedication and the state government’s unwavering support.
The JETS competition, inaugurated in 1988, aims to expose students to technological advancements and encourage innovative solutions to societal challenges.
