Lagos State University, LASU clarification on the newly admitted candidates who were not cleared in the 2023/2024 LASU Central admissions clearance (LACACA) operations

Out of the number of candidates offered provisional admission to Lagos State University in the 2023/2024 academic session, a total number of 12,298 accepted the offer of admission to the university and were directed to provide documents and other related information needed to validate and justify their claims as provided online on which premise the admission was offered.
The steps to be taken by these candidates included updating their O’Level results on JAMB portal, acceptance of admission on JAMB portal, change of course on JAMB portal for those whose courses were changed, generation of admission letter from JAMB portal, provision of affidavit or other evidence for those with inconsistencies in their names.
All these documents and information were to be submitted seamlessly online for the admissions process, including LACACA clearance, which commenced in August 2023.
After several extensions of the initial clearance period (deadline) by the University Management, out of the 12,298 admitted candidates, 295 candidates did not complete their clearance process within the given deadline, which comes to 2.4% of the total population admitted in the 2023/2024 academic session. The 2.4% were rejected at different levels, including ICT and Faculties/Deans’ level.
The non clearance of the 2.4% WAS NOT based on the internal processes of the University, but rather on the non-provision of required documents/information by the candidates. These included uploading O’Level results on the JAMB portal to validate their claims on whose premise the admissions were offered.
The statistics of non-cleared candidates with reasons are as follows:
- 1. Candidates rejected at ICT due to discrepancy/non-availability of results on the WAEC/NECO portals: 26
- 2. Candidates rejected at the Faculty due to inconsistency in the names on WAEC/NECO/JAMB admission letter AND non-availability of admission letter: 66
- 3. Candidates at Level 1 who refused to upload O’Level results on JAMB portal AND change to the admitted course on JAMB portal: 138
- 4. Candidates at Level 2 who did not commence LACACA:
- i. 50 candidates were offered admissions as early as October 2023; and
- ii. 15 were offered in January 2024, totaling 65
LACACA operations for the 2023/2024 admission year closed in March 2024,
Total of affected candidates: 295
NOTE:
Only the cleared candidates can be issued matriculation numbers.
JAMB policy stipulates that only those whose names are consistent with NIN are to be cleared for the issuance of matriculation numbers.
The University Management therefore enjoins all the cleared and duly matriculated students to obtain their 2023/2024 first semester examination dockets from their departments and prepare themselves for the examinations that have been scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 2nd April 2024.
