LASU Embraces Digital Transformation with Online Exams and Virtual Classes

Lagos State University (LASU) has introduced digital initiatives to tackle its persistent issue of overcrowded classrooms introduces virtual classes and online exams.

Lagos State University (LASU) has introduced digital initiatives to tackle its persistent issue of overcrowded classrooms.

The university has begun offering online classes for students, particularly where traditional classroom space is insufficient. LASU assured that this shift has neither compromised the quality of education nor resulted in staff layoffs.

LASU, located in Ojo, has now started conducting exams online and delivering classes virtually to address classroom overcrowding. This significant development was announced by Vice-Chancellor Mrs. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello during the university’s 27th convocation on June 4.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the innovative approach has maintained educational standards and preserved employment levels. She advocated for adopting advanced digital technologies to resolve enduring challenges in the education sector.

“We are leveraging technology to conduct virtual examinations, a move that has garnered praise, including recognition as Nigeria’s most digitally advanced state university at the Nigeria Information Technology Awards,” stated Mrs. Olatunji-Bello.

Despite these advancements, the Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the need to balance technological progress with human considerations, addressing concerns about digital isolation, privacy breaches, and societal impact.
