Cynthia Umezulike, an outstanding Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, has accomplished a remarkable feat by earning two master’s degrees and a doctorate from universities in the United Kingdom.

Cynthia earned her doctorate in Law from Birkbeck, University of London, after an impressive academic journey.

She first obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Igbinedion University in Nigeria, followed by induction as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria at the Nigerian Law School.
She then pursued a Master of Laws in International Law and Criminal Justice (LL.M) at the University of East London and another Master of Laws (LL.M) at Queen Mary, University of London.
Celebrating her achievements, Cynthia expressed her excitement about attending her doctoral graduation in person, as she earned the degree during the pandemic.
She emphasized that the graduation ceremony added a touch of pride and allowed her to close this chapter of her life with grace. Cynthia also expressed her deep gratitude to her father, who funded all her academic endeavors.
During her PhD, Cynthia worked as the Global Head of Legal and Governance and lectured in law at Birkbeck University. Despite her professional responsibilities, her father provided unwavering support, ensuring she had the best quality of life and offering emotional, mental, and intellectual support. Cynthia credited his sacrifices for enabling her to lead an independent and progressive life.
She also thanked her friends and colleagues for their emotional support throughout her doctoral studies, as well as for accompanying her to international conferences and PhD competitions.
Looking ahead, Cynthia stated that her journey continues and she is excited about the future and the possibilities that lie ahead.
