Owolabi Abibat, Overall Best Graduating Master’s Degree Student In UI With 7.0 CGPA

Ms. Owolabi Abibat Olayinka from the University of Ibadan (UI) Faculty of Science, Department of Botany, has become the overall best master’s graduate with a CGPA of 70.

When talking to our correspondent, Abibat, a 25-year-old native of Ibadan, said she recently held a traditional wedding.

She attributed her success to her creator and said that if it were not for God, she would not come this far.

She also praised her parents Aliu Adisa Owolabi and her mentor Professor Egunyomi Adeyemi for their support and pointed out that without them, her life could not have gone so far.

In her words:

“Growing up was difficult considering my background. I am not from a rich home. My father and mother are traders. My father, Mr. Aliu Adisa Owolabi, sells planks at Bodija Market and my mother, Mrs. Kadijat Owolabi, sells foodstuff too. So, you can see that I am not from a rich background.

“But I must tell you my parents support me. At a point when they were getting tired, and there was no money, my mentor, Professor Egunyomi Adeyemi, a retired professor came in. He took up paying my school fees and helping me in other ways. Alhamdulillah, here I am today, I give all praises to God”, she added.

However, speaking of her ambitions, she intends to obtain a Ph.D. in the UI Ph.D. program, she pointed out that she is already looking for scholarships abroad.

“As for my career, I want to be a researcher in my field. I prefer to be a researcher rather than a lecturer. But this is not to say that I cannot be a lecturer. The problem is that the researcher is the first and the lecture is the second,” she added.

Abibat is the third of five children and the first to receive a master’s degree.
