Ige Qudus Ishola, a 25-year-old UNILAG graduate, earned a first-class degree in Microbiology with a CGPA of 4.59/5.00, overcoming financial challenges through hard work as a bus conductor and pursuing his academic and personal growth with resilience and determination.

At 25, Ige Qudus Ishola has graduated from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) with a first-class degree in Microbiology, achieving an impressive CGPA of 4.59/5.00 despite significant financial obstacles.
Ige’s journey to academic excellence was marked by resilience and hard work. In an interview with Legit.ng, he shared how he worked various jobs, including as a bus conductor earning N1,500–N2,000 daily, to save up to N400,000 and fund his education. “I was advised to invest in a bus for hire-purchase, but my education remained my priority,” he revealed.
Despite a challenging start with a 3.65 GPA in his first semester, Ige consistently achieved first-class semester GPAs from his second semester in 100 level until graduation. Alongside his academic pursuits, he developed skills in graphic design and printing, which he began learning after completing his WAEC in 2016.
Reflecting on his journey, Ige admitted he wished he had pursued a more professional course but remains grateful for the wisdom and knowledge gained. He now plans to further his studies through a Master’s or direct PhD program, focusing on his final-year project, while actively seeking scholarships to broaden his opportunities.
Ige’s ultimate goal is to achieve financial stability, either through a rewarding career or entrepreneurship, and to continually improve himself. His advice to students: “Have a purpose, stay ambitious, and face challenges with determination and resilience.”
