LAUTECH Justifies 94 First-Class Graduates, Reaffirms Global Academic Standards

LAUTECH has defended awarding 94 First-Class degrees out of 11,528 graduates, stating the honours reflect academic excellence and global standards, as the university aims to rank among the world’s top 100 institutions.

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has defended its decision to award First-Class honours to 94 out of 11,528 graduating students, asserting that the academic achievements reflect the university’s commitment to excellence and alignment with global education standards.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the institution’s 17th convocation and 35th Founders’ Day celebration, Vice Chancellor Prof. Rasak Olatunde Rom Kalilu praised the quality of LAUTECH’s graduates, citing their outstanding performance in both public and private sectors as evidence of the university’s credibility.

“If you follow the trajectory of our graduates, you’ll know they are among the most resilient and competent,” Kalilu said.

He disclosed that this year’s 11,528 graduates came from 12 faculties, while the university currently runs programmes across 13. Of the total, 8,102 students are receiving bachelor’s degrees, including 94 First-Class, 2,086 Second Class Upper, 3,494 Second Class Lower, 756 Third Class, and 12 Pass degrees.

In the health-related programmes, 7 Nursing graduates earned Distinction, 1,741 received Upper Credit, and 145 earned Lower Credit, while 133 Medicine and Surgery students passed.

Kalilu announced Adeladun Badirat Adeduntan, from the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, as the overall best graduating student, with a CGPA of 4.86. She will be honoured during the convocation ceremony on April 22.

The week-long convocation activities will feature a research fair, exhibition, cultural performances, alumni events, and the awarding of degrees and prizes on April 22, followed by postgraduate diploma and higher degree awards on April 23.

Kalilu reiterated LAUTECH’s vision to become one of the top 100 universities globally, noting its current status as Nigeria’s top-ranked state university.
