Nigerian University Student Breaks World Record for Longest Speech Marathon

Cursory: Christopher Olusa, a 24-year-old postgraduate student at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, set a new record of 112 hours and 12 minutes for the longest speech marathon. He started the marathon on September 11, 2023, and concluded on September 15, 2023.

Christopher Olusa, a 24-year-old postgraduate student at the Federal University of Technology in Akure, Ondo State, has achieved a remarkable feat by breaking the previous record for the longest speech marathon.

Olusa’s marathon speech lasted for an impressive 112 hours and 12 minutes, surpassing the previous record held by Nepali individual Ananta Ram, which stood at 90 hours and 2 minutes, achieved between August 27th and 31st, 2018.

Although Olusa initially aimed for a target of 120 hours, he fell short of this goal. His marathon speech began at 2 a.m. local time on Monday, September 11, 2023, and concluded at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023.

In a tweet shared by the university’s handle on X (formerly Twitter), it stated that the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, and a team from FUTA were present to support Olusa’s “remarkable quest to set a record for the longest speech marathon by an individual.”

PUNCH Online reported that the Guinness World Records had granted approval to Christopher Olusa, the student from FUTA, to participate in the world record event titled “From words to world records.” However, as of the time of this report, the Guinness World Records had not officially confirmed the record.
