MAAUN Closes Two Female Hostels Citing Immorality, Unauthorized Night Activity

MAAUN has closed two female hostels in Kano due to repeated violations of its code of conduct, including immoral behavior, safety issues, and unauthorized night movements, directing students to vacate and seek approved accommodations.

allscho The Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has withdrawn approval and shut down two female hostels — Al-Ansar Indabo — located on UDB Road and in Hotoro, within Kano metropolis. The university cited serious breaches of its student code of conduct including immoral acts, safety violations, and students’ involvement in unauthorized nighttime movements.

This decision was announced in an official statement by Dr. Hamza Garba, Vice President of Campus Life. The university stressed that the closure comes after multiple reports revealed unacceptable conditions and misconduct at the hostels. Key concerns included poor access to water and electricity, violent altercations among students, harboring unauthorized individuals, and repeated code violations.

“Management has decided to revoke recognition of these hostels and has formally informed all stakeholders,” the statement read.

Students have been ordered to vacate the premises immediately after the current semester’s examinations. The institution warned that any further association with the affected hostels would attract disciplinary action.

“We will not be held accountable for consequences arising from any defiance of this directive,” the statement concluded.
