Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) will, for the first time in nine years, graduate over 51,000 students on June 24, 2025, while also conferring honorary fellowships on notable Nigerians including former Governor Olusegun Osoba, as part of a revitalized academic and institutional reform effort led by Rector Dr Babatunde Jolaosho.

Abeokuta, Ogun State – In a historic move marking a new chapter in its academic journey, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) is set to hold its first convocation ceremony in nearly a decade. The polytechnic will formally graduate over 51,000 students who completed their studies across nine academic sessions, from 2015/2016 to 2023/2024. The ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the institution’s campus in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The graduates will receive National Diplomas (ND) and Higher National Diplomas (HND) in various disciplines, including Engineering, Business Administration, Mass Communication, Science and Technology, and other fields. This long-awaited event is a significant step toward restoring the institution’s academic prestige, which had been affected by internal challenges and systemic delays.
Distinguished Honourees: Osoba, Orelope-Adefulire, Fadare
To mark the occasion, MAPOLY will also be conferring honorary fellowship awards on three distinguished Nigerians who have made outstanding contributions to governance, public service, and community development:
- Chief Olusegun Osoba, former Governor of Ogun State and respected elder statesman
- Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Chief Tosin Owolabi Fadare, the Seriki of Egbaland and a notable traditional leader
These honours, according to the school’s governing council, are in recognition of the recipients’ unwavering commitment to national development and societal upliftment.
Adding intellectual depth to the ceremony, the convocation lecture titled “Diaspora Perspective and the Influence of STEM in the Globalised World of Today” will be delivered by Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM). The lecture is expected to offer fresh insights into the role of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in modern development, especially within the African diaspora.
