Former Ondo State governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, was honored as the best graduating Master’s student at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, during its sixth convocation, where 634 students, including 34 first-class graduates, received their degrees.


The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, awarded degrees to 634 students during its sixth convocation ceremony, with 34 graduating with first-class honors.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adesegun Fatusi highlighted the achievements, noting that 539 students graduated from undergraduate programs and 95 from postgraduate programs. Among the undergraduates, 223 earned second-class upper degrees, 145 received second-class lower, 9 earned third-class, and 127 were awarded unclassified degrees, which included 41 medical doctors, 23 dental surgeons, and 64 physiotherapists.
In the postgraduate category, 36 earned postgraduate diplomas, 19 received Master of Public Health degrees, 38 completed MSc programs, 2 earned MPhil degrees, and 1 obtained a PhD.
Prof. Fatusi celebrated the university’s accomplishments over the past decade, stating, “UNIMED has produced three sets of medical doctors, dentists, and physiotherapists, along with multiple sets of nurses, medical laboratory scientists, and other health science professionals, achieving remarkable milestones in Nigeria’s educational and healthcare sectors.”
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the university’s Visitor, commended UNIMED for maintaining 100% success in professional examinations conducted by regulatory councils, including Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences, and Community Health. He also announced his administration’s N1 billion investment in constructing the university’s senate building.
A special highlight of the event was the recognition of former Ondo State governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, as the best graduating Master’s student for 2024. Mimiko, who completed the “Master of Health Law and Policy” program, was awarded the prestigious “Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu Prize” for his exceptional performance.
