Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has awarded scholarships to 44 first-class graduates of Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, enabling them to pursue master’s degrees in their respective fields at the institution.


The governor announced this at BSU’s combined 22nd, 23rd, and 24th convocation ceremonies on Saturday in Makurdi. He encouraged all graduates to “conquer the world and make their mark.”
As part of his administration’s commitment to education, Governor Alia also revealed plans to rename the university after its founder, the late Rev. Fr. Moses Adasu, through an executive bill submitted to the State House of Assembly. Additionally, he pledged to donate 500 computers to the university’s computer hall and announced the establishment of new campuses in Adikpo, Kwande Local Government Area, and the Benue South Senatorial District.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tor Iorapuu highlighted ongoing projects, including the construction of a 144-bed hostel for students and the relocation of the Faculty of Technology and Industrial Studies to Adikpo.
Chancellor Dr. Najib Adamu, who is also the Emir of Kazaure, encouraged graduates to contribute positively to society and pledged his continued support for the institution’s growth.
Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council Chairman Paul Chukwuma emphasized the university’s academic expansion, including the introduction of Architecture and Pharmacy programs, and reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of staff and students. He urged alumni to remain united and partner with the institution for its advancement.
