Former lawmaker Hon. Lanre Laoshe repaid a 48-year-old N1,200 student loan with N3.1 million, a gesture praised by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as an act of goodwill and integrity.

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) announced that former federal lawmaker, Hon. Lanre Laoshe, has generously repaid a N1,200 student loan, which he received between 1976 and 1979, with an amount of N3,189,217.00.
NELFUND commended Laoshe’s repayment as a gesture of goodwill and integrity, though it did not specify why the loan was repaid after nearly five decades.
Hon. Laoshe expressed his gratitude for the financial assistance he received from the Federal Government 48 years ago and calculated the current equivalent of the loan using historical exchange rates provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He issued a bank draft for the adjusted amount to NELFUND as a token of his appreciation.
NELFUND praised Laoshe’s action, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling commitments and supporting the educational goals of Nigerian students.
