13-year-old Nigerian Boy, Emerges Africa’s Youngest Programmer, Shares His Journey

Cursory: Joshua Agboola, a 13-year-old Nigerian prodigy, has become the youngest certified software developer in Africa by obtaining the Amazon Web Services (AWS) developer associate certification. He started programming at age 6 and prepared rigorously for the examination, passing with flying colors. His remarkable achievement has garnered attention and technical mentorship opportunities from a renowned tech company.

At just 13 years old, Joshua Agboola, a talented Nigerian boy, has etched his name in history by becoming the youngest software developer in Africa.

With a passion for coding that started at the age of 6, Joshua recently earned certification as an Amazon Web Services (AWS) developer associate in Africa.

His achievement came after successfully passing a rigorous two-hour examination, evaluating his skills in deploying, troubleshooting, and developing on the Amazon Web Services cloud platform.

Cloud services encompass infrastructure, platforms, or software provided by third-party entities and accessed by users via the Internet.

Joshua’s exceptional performance in his AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner examination earlier in the year served as motivation for him to aim for this new accomplishment.

Additionally, Joshua mentioned that his father played a crucial role in motivating him to take the examination and pursue the next level of certification.

Although he initially had an interest in DevOps, the common route was to go for the Solutions Architect Associate certification.

However, an older friend who was also a programmer convinced him to aim for the more challenging developer associate certification, which led him to begin his preparations for the examination.

“I was initially preparing for the Solutions Architect Associate certification which is the next certification most people take in their AWS cloud journey, but had a change of mind for a tougher developer associate certification due to encouragement from an older friend programmer,” he said.

Joshua stated that he diligently prepared for the test, dedicating approximately two to five hours daily for about six weeks.

He held the belief that passing the examination would not only make him the youngest developer in Africa but also in the entire world.

Joshua proudly shared his record-breaking accomplishment on LinkedIn, expressing his excitement for becoming an AWS Certified Developer Associate at just 13 years old.

”I am excited to announce that yesterday, I became certified by Amazon as an AWS Certified Developer Associate, becoming the youngest AWS Developer Associate in the world at age 13,” Joshua wrote.

Having recently attained the Solutions Architect Associate certification, he was motivated to take on the Developer Associate exam and was grateful for successfully passing it with excellent results.

Joshua hopes that his achievement will inspire others to pursue their tech career dreams, and he encouraged them to go for it.

”After clinching the Solutions Architect Associate certification last week, I was revved up to take the Developer Associate exam, and I am grateful to God I passed with flying colors. I hope my achievement inspires others to push for their career dreams in the tech space. Go for it guys,” he added.

He also revealed that a tech company in Lagos noticed his achievement and offered additional technical mentorship, which further fuels his desire to explore and excel in the cloud space.
