Kaitochukwu Chukwudi, a trailblazing Nigerian scholar, graduated with First-Class Honours in Chemical Engineering from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, earning the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship to pursue a Master’s in Engineering for Sustainable Development at the University of Cambridge.


Kaitochukwu Chukwudi, a brilliant Nigerian scholar, has made history as the best-graduating student from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nigeria. She achieved First-Class Honours, becoming the department’s first female graduate to reach this milestone in over 15 years.
Her remarkable academic performance has earned her the prestigious Mastercard Foundation Scholarship to pursue a postgraduate degree at the University of Cambridge, UK. This fully-funded scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, living expenses, books, a laptop, and travel costs.
In addition to her departmental honors, Kaitochukwu was also named the Best Female Graduating Student in the Faculty of Engineering. Reflecting on her journey, she expressed gratitude and pride for the years of hard work and determination that culminated in these achievements.
Sharing her story on LinkedIn, Kaitochukwu said:
“What fulfills me the most is the community of brilliant young ones I have mentored and shared a part of myself with, creating ripples of positive influence that will help them navigate life and career.”
She emphasized a key lesson from her journey:
“In my becoming, I allow others to become. I remain committed to shining my light and shining it brightly.”
Kaitochukwu credited her success to God, her family, mentors, friends, and allies, all of whom played a significant role in her journey. She expressed excitement about her next chapter at Cambridge, where she will pursue a Master’s Degree in Engineering for Sustainable Development. Her focus will be on integrating business, technology, and policy with engineering solutions to design systems that promote environmental sustainability, social equity, and economic viability.
Speaking about her aspirations, she said:
“What began as an impulsive action has now transformed into reality. Looking back, I am reminded of the resilience it took, the unreal moments, and the understanding that the only limit to our realization of tomorrow is our doubts of today.”
As Kaitochukwu embarks on this new journey, she acknowledges the challenges ahead but remains hopeful and determined to make a difference in the world.
