Nigerian Law School and University of Ibadan Fail to Reinstate Expelled Student Despite Court Orders Since 2017

The Nigerian Law School and University of Ibadan have been accused of defying court orders to reinstate expelled student Kayode Bello since 2017, with Bello alleging his expulsion stems from his involvement in a school protest in 2008.

The Nigerian Law School and the University of Ibadan have faced serious accusations of defying court orders to reinstate Kayode Bello, a former student expelled in 2017.

Bello, in a detailed statement, claims that his expulsion is rooted in personal vendettas tied to his activism as Chief Editor of the Union of Campus Journalists during 2008 protests against tuition hikes at the University of Ibadan.

He alleges that faculty members, including Prof. Oluyemisi Bamgbose, Prof. Olayinka Idowu, and Prof. Adewole Isaac, were involved in orchestrating his removal, motivated by the lingering tensions over the fee hike protests.

Bello explained that his complaints about poor facilities at the Nigerian Law School were ignored, despite some officials admitting the validity of his concerns. He has sought court orders to return to the Nigerian Law School and complete his Bar exam, but claims his efforts have been repeatedly obstructed by corrupt institutional practices.

In addition, Bello has taken legal action against the University of Ibadan over the unlawful blocking of his student portal during his Master’s program, noting that officials acted only after a court intervention.

Despite several attempts to reapply to the Nigerian Law School, Bello says he has not been readmitted and has yet to receive any response from the Ministry of Education. He continues to call for justice and accountability, urging media outlets to investigate his claims of harassment and victimization by university and law school authorities.

Bello also highlighted ongoing victimization of students protesting fee hikes at the University of Ibadan, emphasizing the need for transparency and institutional reform.

He appealed to the press to shed light on the situation, stating that his efforts to pursue legal redress and expose the injustices he has faced are being actively thwarted by powerful individuals within the academic and legal systems.
