CURSORY: The provost of Medicine University of Lagos laments how female students perform better than males in the medical field.
Speaking at the 25th medical laboratory science induction ceremony of the graduates, the Provost, College of Medicine University of Lagos, Prof. David Oke lamented the fact that female students were performing much better than their male colleagues.
In his words “One thing I have noticed in the College of Medicine is that the women are trying to take over. We have noticed that in medicine, dentistry, and radiography. I think men are doing other things rather than medicine.

”I hope the men will eventually come back to study medicine so that even if they live, we will have more people working here to look after our people.”
The Registrar, Dr Tosan Erhabor, who was represented by Mr Gregory Uchuno, said, “It will be the height of delusion for you to start parading yourselves as top-notch achievers because of your success so far.
“You have been well-trained and that is why we are about to admit you into our noble profession. But there is still work to be done before you can claim such bragging rights.
”Therefore, you must brace up for challenges coming your way. A word of caution, you should not enlist in the National Youth Service Corps without completing the internship programme and obtaining a Full Practising Licence. Not doing so can jeopardise your career before it even starts.”
Furthermore, Oke stated that the Japa syndrome might certainly claim many of the recently hired Medical Laboratory Scientists.
While giving the seventh induction ceremony of the Medical Laboratory Science graduates, titled, ‘Staying relevant in professional practice: Strategies for professional development and career achievement,’ Clinical Laboratory Manager, Xcene Research, Oluwafemi Omokayode, said:
“May your journey be characterised by continuous learning, meaningful connections and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
”The future of Medical Laboratory Science rests in your capable hands, and I am confident that each of you will contribute significantly to the advancement of our field. Embrace challenges as stepping stones to success and never underestimate the impact of your contributions to the medical laboratory science profession.”
