Anambra Closes School After Seven-Year-Old Pupil Was Bullied

The Anambra State Government has closed Upcoming Star International School in Awka after a seven-year-old pupil was allegedly bullied and injured, discovering that the school was operating without approval.

The Anambra State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Upcoming Star International School in Awka following allegations of bullying that left a seven-year-old pupil injured.

The State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced this in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the government took action after receiving reports that a classmate allegedly broke the pupil’s leg.

Upon summoning the school’s proprietor for questioning, it was discovered that the school was operating without official approval.

Prof. Chuma-Udeh confirmed that the pupil was indeed bullied by a classmate, resulting in a broken leg, and the incident was reported to the ministry.

“The pupil was bullied by her classmate, leading to a broken leg. This was reported to the ministry, and during questioning, the school’s proprietor, Uche Onyeachona, admitted the incident occurred in his school. It was also found that the school was not officially approved by the state government.

Following this, the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, ordered the school to be shut down by 2 pm today, citing the dangers posed by illegal schools to children in the state.

The commissioner also urged parents to avoid enrolling their children in unapproved schools and warned that proprietors of such institutions would be handed over to law enforcement for violating state laws.
