Nigerian Scientist Discovers Powerful New Drug, Gives it Nigerian Name

A Smart Nigerian Scientist has discovered a powerful new drug and has given it a Nigerian name.

The Scientist, Dr. Ugochukwu Anieto discovered a new antibiotic drug used to treat drug-resistant infections.

According to cdc.gov, antibiotic resistance happens when germs like bacteria and fungi develop the ability to defeat the drugs designed to kill them. That means the germs are not killed and continue to grow.

Dr. Anieto is an instructional assistant at the College of Science and Higher Education, McAllen, Texas A&M University.

According to one @sunnychuks, Dr. Ugochukwu graduated from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

A document sighted online indicates that the drug is named after Dr Aniteto’s family, hence it is called ‘Anietocin’. The document also states that the new invention is currently undergoing laboratory trials.

Also, it confirmed that preparations are in top gear to get the drug patented in the United States.

A relative to the smart Nigerian Scientist, Mr. Ozii Baba Anieto has shared a tweet to celebrate his cousin.

“My cousin, Dr. Ugo Anieto discovered an antibiotic for drug-resistant infections. He named it ANIETOCIN – after my family name. Dr. Ugo is a scientist in Texas, USA,” his tweet reads.

Twitter users did what they know how to do best by dropping congratulatory tweets. Some of which are:

@LordTyrion4 wrote: Nigerians be working wonders! Millions of lives could be saved from this discovery. Congratulations!

@oga_pharmacist wrote: God news. Happy for Dr.Ugo & his team. However, it is still a very long road to having the drugs pass through bench work, and into trials (phase 1 to 4), where it will be screened for so many other properties including safety, real world efficacy and more. Hope it goes well.

@Itz_Tweexy wrote: This is wild. Do y’all get it, the infections that don’t leave after you’ve taken drugs, well he made something for those stubborn types. Wow that’s super

@Szaswiifey wrote: The way I’d be bragging… my friends will never be able to rest peacefully again 😭. Congratulations to him tho!!

@TerrilentT wrote: I really hope this pulls through. Antimicrobial resistance is getting more scary by the day. Congratulations 👏

From all of us at ALLSCHOOL, We say a big congratulations to Dr. Ugochukwu Anieto and pray your hard work pays off.
