After 27 rejections, Nigerian woman Shukurah Ghali secured admission to her dream PhD program in Epidemiology and Population Health at the prestigious London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, inspiring others with her perseverance and resilience.

A resilient Nigerian woman, Shukurah Ghali, has achieved her dream of pursuing a PhD in Epidemiology and Population Health at the prestigious London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), the UK’s top public health school and second globally.

Sharing her journey on LinkedIn, Shukurah expressed her joy at finally walking the halls of her dream institution after years of determination and perseverance. Reflecting on her path, she revealed that she faced 27 rejections from various programs and scholarships before securing this opportunity. “Every single ‘no’ was a redirection, preparing me for something far greater than I could have ever imagined,” she shared.

Shukurah’s determination was rooted in her years of hard work, from serving as the Presiding Veterinary Officer at Nigeria’s largest abattoir in Ilorin to completing her Master’s degree at the University of Ilorin. Despite setbacks, moments of self-doubt, and the heavy weight of waiting, she remained steadfast, driven by faith and persistence.

Now embarking on impactful global health research at LSHTM, Shukurah encourages others to pursue their dreams despite obstacles. “Persistence, faith, and resilience can truly move mountains. May your delulu become trululu—because mine just did!” she wrote, inspiring others to keep pushing forward.

Grateful for her family, friends, and God’s guidance, Shukurah reflected on her journey, stating, “Every rejection was leading me here, to the best possible path.” Her story is a testament to the power of resilience and unwavering commitment to achieving one’s goals.
