The NYSC has invalidated the certificates of 101 individuals fraudulently mobilized by UNICAL for national service between 2021 and 2023, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the program.

On Monday, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) annulled the certificates of 101 individuals who were fraudulently mobilized for national service by the University of Calabar (UNICAL) during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 service years.
The NYSC described this action as a significant step in combating certificate fraud and safeguarding the integrity of the national service program.
Eddy Megwa, Director of Information and Public Relations at NYSC, stated that the organization took this decisive action to ensure that only qualified individuals participate in the national service program. The certificates of the affected individuals were immediately canceled after they were discovered to have been fraudulently mobilized.
This move underscores NYSC’s strong commitment to upholding the standards of the national service program by ensuring that only eligible candidates receive certificates of national service.
The NYSC warned that it will continue to take action against any individuals or institutions found engaging in fraudulent mobilization practices. The organization also urged the public—particularly Corps Employers, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Corporate and Religious Organizations, Multi-National Companies, and Corps Producing Institutions—to verify the authenticity of certificates presented to them.
Members of the public are encouraged to confirm the validity of certificates at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja to avoid employing or accepting fake corps members.
Megwa emphasized, “The Management of the National Youth Service Corps reaffirms its strong commitment to ensuring that unqualified locally and foreign-trained Nigerian youths, especially those allegedly graduating from unaccredited universities, are not recognized. Only qualified individuals will be issued NYSC Certificates of National Service.
“In light of this, the Certificates of National Service of the listed individuals have been immediately invalidated by the NYSC Management. We urge all relevant stakeholders, including Corps Employers, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Corporate and Religious Organizations, Multi-National Companies, Corps Producing Institutions, and others, to take prompt action based on this announcement.
“In addition, the public is also advised to verify the authenticity of Certificates of National Service, Exemption, and Exclusion Letters presented for any purpose at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.”
