Ayomide Adeleye, a 200-level student at Olabisi Onabanjo University, was arrested and confessed to abducting and killing fellow student Idowu Christianah, with investigations also linking him to previous suspicious deaths of his ex-girlfriend and sister.
The hashtag #JusticeForChristianah has gained significant attention on social media following the tragic death of Idowu Christianah, a young student who was abducted and murdered by Adeleye Ayomide, a 200-level student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU).
On August 19, 2024, Idowu Christianah was reported missing. Her kidnappers used her WhatsApp account to contact her parents, sending photos of her in captivity via the ‘view once’ feature and demanding a ransom of ₦1.5 million.

Christianah’s parents were able to gather ₦350,000, which they transferred to a betting account as instructed by the kidnappers. After receiving the money, the abductors requested a copy of the sender’s bank statement. The family complied on August 23, but all communication from the kidnappers stopped soon after.
During the investigation, authorities found that a portion of the ransom had been transferred to Christianah’s GTBank account and then withdrawn into a Wema Bank account linked to the primary suspect, Ayomide Adeleye, a second-year student at OOU.
By August 26, investigators began tracking the associated bank accounts. On August 29, they discovered that the BVN linked to the betting account was registered to Ayomide, who had already withdrawn ₦100,000 before the account was frozen by the betting company. Evidence also showed a personal connection between Ayomide and Christianah through their Instagram interactions.
Authorities tracked Ayomide’s phone to his family’s residence in Ikorodu, leading to his arrest by military personnel from the 174 Battalion. A search of his phone revealed critical evidence, including possession of Christianah’s phone, bank records linking him to the crime, and email exchanges between him and Christianah’s family.
On September 3, 2024, Ayomide confessed to murdering Christianah and burying her at his family’s home.
Further investigations suggest that Ayomide may also be linked to the deaths of his ex-girlfriend in 2018 and his biological sister in 2020, both of which occurred under suspicious circumstances.
