The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnic (SSANIP) has declared a three-day warning strike, starting January 22, 2025, to protest the marginalization and denial of career progression for non-teaching staff in polytechnics.

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnic (SSANIP) has announced a nationwide three-day warning strike, commencing from midnight on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, to Friday, January 24, 2025, citing grievances over career progression and marginalization of non-teaching staff.
SSANIP’s National Secretary, Nura Gaya, explained that the strike aims to protest ongoing efforts to deny non-teaching staff their rightful progression to the peak of their careers on CONTEDISS 15, as outlined in the redrafted Polytechnic Schemes of Service. The union highlighted that prior engagements with relevant authorities yielded minimal results, prompting this action to emphasize their grievances.
A statement sent to the Ministry of Labour, the National Board for Technical Education, and the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation expressed SSANIP’s frustration, describing the situation as a direct affront to their efforts to secure fair treatment.
While the union reiterated its commitment to dialogue with the federal government, it urged authorities to address the issue urgently to prevent further disruptions in the polytechnic system.
This development follows a similar action by lecturers at the Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe, Bayelsa State, who recently embarked on an indefinite strike over unpaid promotion arrears and academic allowances.
