The House of Representatives has ordered the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to remit N3.602 billion to the Federal Government’s Consolidated Revenue Fund within 30 days, emphasizing that this remittance is a legal obligation and not subject to interpretation, despite JAMB’s claims regarding differing remittance percentages.

The House of Representatives has mandated the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to remit N3.602 billion to the Federal Government’s Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF).
This decision was announced during an investigative hearing led by Rep. Bamidele Salam, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, who emphasized that the remittance is a legal obligation, not open to interpretation.
The Committee unanimously resolved that JAMB must transfer the specified amount to the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) and provide proof of payment within 30 days. The FRC had previously brought JAMB before the committee due to unremitted operating surpluses.
FRC representative Mr. Bello Aliyu stated that JAMB’s liabilities had increased to N3.602 billion as of 2022, following a lack of response to previous notifications.
In defense, JAMB’s Director of Finance, Mr. Mufutau Bello, argued that the discrepancy arises from the FRC’s push for a 50% revenue remittance, contrary to the 25% concession previously granted by the Accountant-General. He asserted that JAMB has consistently remitted at the agreed rate and has not raised registration fees in eight years.
