Sangotola Morenikeji Victoria, a young Nigerian lady, has finally graduated from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) with a Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries, earning Second Class Upper Honors. Her academic journey is a testament to her unwavering determination and resilience in the face of adversity.
Morenikeji began her studies at UNILAG in 2019, but her journey was prolonged to seven years due to various challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Despite these setbacks, she persevered and eventually graduated in 2026.
Tragedy struck Morenikeji during her academic journey, as she lost her father in her third year and her mother in her fifth year. This meant graduating without both parents present to witness her milestone, an unimaginable loss. However, she remained determined and strong, pushing through the programme with dedication.
Morenikeji dedicated her degree to her late parents, Thomas and Comfort, honoring their memory and the sacrifices they made. Her story is an inspiration to many, showcasing the power of resilience and determination in overcoming life’s challenges.
UNILAG has been producing outstanding graduates, with 617 students graduating with first-class honors at its 56th convocation ceremony. The university has also retained its top position in Nigeria, ranking 801-1,000 globally.
