Cursory: A young man who was combining working as a security man and studying has finally graduated. He told his story of his struggles and how he persisted in his valedictorian speech at the school’s graduation.

Brilliant young man, Abubakar Hadi delivered his valedictorian speech on Saturday 18, March 2023 at the Islamic College of Ghana.

When the young man was called upon to give his speech there was a resounding round of applause from the people in attendance.

The MC introduced him as a hard worker who overcame all odds to get to point he is now; student by day worker by night.

In his speech, he recalled how the pandemic had come as a rude awakening to his batch and made them go in search of their university degree.

He went on about the struggles and challenges encountered in the pursuit of his degree.

He said: ” The poor internet connectivity and unforgettable online exams.

“joy of face to face meetings and eagerness to meet colleagues in person after classes resumed”

According to him, he was known as the “book worm” and “book long” because he always carried a book in his hand.

The intelligent young man was excited as he recalled how his project work was translated into Spanish, German, Latin and Italian. Hadi also spoke on how he combined his academics and work.

“I was so excited but surprised that a mere security who worked during the night and attended lecturers in the day could stand here as a valedictorian student” he said.

He also expressed his gratitude to the university management and teaching staff for their contribution to their success before thanking a man he called boss, Nana Appiah Mensah for his support throughout his academic journey.

He urged the graduates to uphold the values of the university which they have been taught.
