Six FUOYE Graduates bag PhD Scholarships in U.S. and Brazil

Six graduates from the FUOYE in Ekiti State have secured doctoral degree scholarships with research assistantship positions at prestigious universities in the United States and Brazil, VC celebrates them.

Six graduates from the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) in Ekiti State have secured doctoral degree scholarships with research assistantship positions at prestigious universities in the United States and Brazil.

In a historic achievement, the university also celebrated the election of Miss Abiodun Olorunshola Mary as the first female Student Union Government (SUG) President-elect in Southwest Nigeria.

The graduates, from the Faculties of Science and Engineering, include Afolabi Mojibola Esther, FUOYE’s best-graduating student in Geology in 2022. Joining her are Mariam Okunade, Adeleye Blessing, and Toyin Sunday, who all graduated with first-class honors in Industrial Chemistry from the Faculty of Science.

From the Faculty of Engineering, the awardees are Alabi Johnson Sunday, a former FUOYE SUG President who graduated in 2021 and won a PhD scholarship with a research assistantship at Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA; Adejumo Olarenwaju Oluwaseyi of the 2020/2021 academic session; and Adele Emmanuel Oluwademilo, who graduated with second-class upper honors and secured an MSc/PhD scholarship at the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil.

Professor Olayide Lawal, former Dean of the Faculty of Science and current Director of the Directorate of Research Innovation and Linkage Programme (DRILP) at FUOYE, praised the students for their dedication and hard work. “The students showed serious commitment to their studies from the onset. They were actively involved in tutorial classes and did not allow social media distractions. My colleagues and I in the Department of Chemistry provided good mentoring for them, recognizing their responsibility, hard work, and focus,” he said.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina congratulated the students, stating, “We are immensely proud of these intelligent graduates who have brought honor to our university. They have demonstrated that FUOYE offers top-quality education across all disciplines. This success is due to our conducive learning environment and excellent faculty. We wish these graduates continued success in their future endeavors.”

He also expressed pride in FUOYE’s commitment to gender sensitivity, highlighted by the historic election of the first female SUG President-elect, Miss Abiodun Olorunshola Mary, wishing her a fulfilling and progressive tenure.
