Student With 2 Best-Selling Books, 4.2 GPA Gets Rejected From Harvard; Other Top Varsities

Cursory: The situation a young man found himself is confusing and a bit vexing and a lot of netizens have reacted in an appalled manner. In a TikTok video that has gained a lot of attention, it was revealed that the young man had already ticked all boxes and was supposed to be eligible for admission into Harvard, but got rejected instead. The young man is said to have aced all his exams, received awards and even has 2 bestseller science books and a huge following on his science page online. Despite all this, he was still rejected and it got people wandering why exactly that is.

Everyone believes that working hard in life will be rewarded. No matter how much you accomplish, however, opportunities will occasionally slip by. One overachiever, for example, accomplished more in a few decades of life than many people will in a lifetime.

A TikToker named Limmy who analyzes college applications on the app described the circumstance. In the opening line of the film, he exclaimed, “This is the most insane college application I’ve ever seen in life!” before going on to list all of the achievements the young man has done.

The teen is the author of two math books that have achieved New York Times best-seller status, with “10,000 books sold for $300,000,” according to an email sent by Limmy.

He received a “Strogatez Prize for Math Communication,” was “featured in a national TV documentary,” and was named one of the 20 Under 20 honorees by the Arab America Foundation. In addition, he won the county science fair’s “Grand Award,” was a two-time finalist for the National Chemistry Olympiad, and received third place in the National Science Bowl. He also won the faculty’s “best student award,” the “Grand Award at the County Science Fair,” and other honors.

His list of accomplishments doesn’t end there; he also finished third in the MIST Nationals Math Olympics, has 200,000 followers on his math and physics page, founded and serves as captain of the Science Team, and interned for Wolfram Research at the age of 17. He competed on the football and wrestling varsity teams and worked as a docent at the Smithsonian Institution. Nothing major.

As if that weren’t enough, the man also finished with a 4.2 GPA and a SAT score of 1560 out of 1600. To put it into perspective, the average SAT score for males in 2022 was 1050, and the average grade point average for males is 2.9.

The brilliant kid applied to numerous colleges, including Stanford, Harvard, MIT, Yale, Princeton, Caltech, Carnegie Mellon, NYU, Columbia, Northwestern, and Duke University, naturally assuming that he would be accepted to any school he picked. Limmy assumed that the majority of the institutions on the list would be the ones the man was accepted to after taking a glance at the list of schools.

The student was then featured in a second video that was uploaded to see if he was admitted to all of the schools that the viewers had predicted. In general, he did well, enrolling in schools like NYU, Stanford, West Point, and Washington University. But when they learned that Harvard, MIT, Yale, and Princeton had decided to reject his application, many people were shocked. He was included to the waiting list for a handful of the colleges.

The high-achieving kid might have been turned down by numerous Ivy-league universities for a variety of reasons. Some readers speculated that the schools decided to give the opportunity to other students who were less accomplished because they believed he would succeed whether or not he was admitted.

Others believed that the man’s Asian heritage contributed to the numerous rejections. When a group sued Harvard University in 2015, they claimed that at least 100 candidates had been turned away because Asian Americans needed higher academic scores than those from other racial and ethnic groups in order to be admitted. This exclusion of Asian applicants was brought to light. But it’s difficult to establish if the man’s race played any part in the admissions process given the scant information available.

Even if you are an exceptional student, getting into a top university is not certain. According to a 2019 research by the National Bureau of Economic Research, 43% of white students who were admitted to Harvard did so because they were athletes, were the offspring of teachers and staff, or were legacy students or donors.
