Two Missing Visually Impaired Students Rescued in Enugu After Three Months

Two visually impaired students who went missing from a special school in Ebonyi State were found alive in Enugu after three months of begging on the streets, following their escape due to alleged bullying by senior students.

Two visually impaired students who went missing from the Special Secondary School for the Blind in Opefia, Izzi LGA of Ebonyi State, have been found alive and well in Abakpa Nike, Enugu State, after surviving on the streets for three months by begging for alms.

Their rescue was confirmed by the Ebonyi State Police Command and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), following a tip-off via a phone call to one of the students’ parents. Police spokesperson Joshua Ukandu said the teenagers have been reunited with their families and will return for further questioning.

NHRC Coordinator in Ebonyi, Christopher Okorie, identified the students as 17-year-old Augustine Onwunyiruba (JSS3) and 16-year-old Lawrence Onyenaturuchukwu (SS1), who reportedly fled the school after facing threats from senior students.

Okorie thanked the public and the media for their role in locating the children, emphasizing that both were found in stable physical and mental condition and safely returned home.
