“My take home can’t take me home” – Masters Degree University Graduate Begs for Better-Paying Job

Salifu Issifu, a University graduate with an MPhil (Masters Degree) from an European university, addressed rumors about his employment status.

On Thursday, May 23, 2024, Salifu Issifu, a University of Ghana graduate with an MPhil from a Norwegian university, addressed rumors about his employment status.

Despite holding impressive academic qualifications, Salifu claimed he was struggling to find a job that met his financial needs and career expectations.

Salifu initially posted on social media, expressing his frustration over being unable to secure a suitable job for years.

This sparked controversy, as some Ghanaians accused him of lying, asserting that he was employed by the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC).

YEN.com.gh confirmed that Salifu is indeed employed by the EC as a secretary in the North East regional office. However, he clarified that his dissatisfaction stems from the insufficient salary, which does not adequately support him or his family.

In an interview with YEN.com.gh, Salifu explained, “My take home can’t take me home. I have been searching for a better job since 2020, reaching out to various political figures, but without success.”

Salifu also addressed reports about a scholarship from the vice president’s office for a PhD program. He revealed that while he started the program in 2020 with a GETFUND scholarship covering tuition, he struggled with living expenses and had to defer his studies.

He expressed a need for a more comprehensive scholarship, such as the GNPC scholarship, which covers stipends, accommodation, and research allowances.

Despite the challenges, Salifu emphasized that he is not blaming anyone for his situation. He remains committed to finding better employment opportunities to improve his circumstances.
