A UNIBEN student sparked online debate after saying she’d rather graduate with a first-class degree than take 1,000 Bitcoin, arguing that money is temporary but education and respect last a lifetime.

A University of Benin (UNIBEN) student has gone viral for choosing academic excellence over cryptocurrency wealth. When asked if she’d choose 1,000 Bitcoin (BTC) or graduate with a first-class degree, she opted for the latter, sparking widespread discussion on social media.
The student’s decision was met with praise and debate, with many commending her prioritization of education and ambition. “I chose first class over 1,000 BTC because money can come and go, but education and respect last a lifetime,” she explained.
The video, shared on TikTok by @frankkkkkk57, has garnered thousands of reactions. Some praised her conviction, while others questioned the practicality of choosing a degree over instant wealth.
UNIBEN has a history of producing high-achieving students, with 198 students bagging first-class degrees in the 2024/2025 academic session.
The student’s response highlights the value of education and personal growth. As Nigeria’s youth navigate the complexities of success, her decision serves as a reminder that true achievement isn’t always measured by wealth.
