A graduate of University of Jos recounted how he was allegedly kidnapped, held for 11 days, and ransomed after accepting what he believed was a legitimate welding job offer in Kaduna State.

A graduate of University of Jos, John Arum Azi, has shared his frightening experience of allegedly being kidnapped after accepting what appeared to be a genuine welding job offer. He explained that the people behind the offer repeatedly contacted him and even sent transport money, which convinced him the opportunity was real.
Speaking during a testimony at a church in Tudun Wada, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Azi said he travelled from Jos to Zaria in Kaduna State on April 11, 2026, after being told there was welding work available. On getting there, he was instructed to continue the journey to a nearby village using a motorcycle.
According to him, he became suspicious during the trip but ignored his fears because he was eager to secure employment. He said the callers constantly reassured him and maintained communication throughout the journey, making the arrangement appear trustworthy.
Azi further revealed that he was eventually taken into a forest where armed men were waiting. He alleged that the kidnappers searched him, seized his belongings, forced him to wear unfamiliar clothes and a face mask, and then transported him through bush paths into Zamfara State. He recalled spending several hours travelling through isolated areas without encountering any security presence.
The graduate claimed the abductors later contacted his family and demanded a ₦30 million ransom for his release. He also alleged that he was beaten and questioned about his religion while in captivity. According to him, the kidnappers later reduced the ransom to ₦6 million but still requested an additional ₦4 million after receiving payment.
After spending 11 days in captivity, Azi said he eventually regained freedom and returned home deeply traumatised but grateful to have survived the experience.
